Nicolás Conde is a Performing and Visual Arts Practitioner and Consultant at the intersection of interdisciplinary creative practice and sustainable transformation strategies. With a wide variety of experiences spanning continents and art forms, Conde's journey encapsulates his commitment to transforming the world around us, blending creativity with sustainable and regenerative practices.
Beginning his career as a theatre practitioner working in the vibrant network of independent theatres in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Conde's creative practice was based on a collaborative ethos from the beginning. His move to Europe in 2015 marked the expansion of his already versatile skill set via new contexts, which ranged from stage management to assistant directing. Through roles as a Technical Producer and Artistic Assistant in particular, he gained profound insights into production models, while gaining an understanding of the arts ecosystem in the UK and on the continent. Conde has worked with Bristol Old Vic (UK), Center for Contemporary Opera (U.S.A.), Royal National Theatre (UK), Verbeke Foundation (Belgium), and Sala Hiroshima (Spain). His canvas extends beyond traditional theatre to encompass contemporary dance, kinetic sculpture, circus, puppetry, and music concerts, embracing the beauty of interdisciplinary expressions.
Conde's artistic ability is enriched by a robust training background that includes Theatre Direction under the internationally respected Argentine artist and theatre-maker Emilio Garcia Wehbi, as well as classical dance and musical theatre at the Julio Bocca Foundation, puppetry from Complejo Teatral San Martin, circus disciplines from La Arena Circus school, and a deep immersion in music and opera through Accademia Teatro Alla Scala in Milan.
Following up on a decade of learning-by-doing development, Conde graduated cum laude from the MA in Performing Arts Management at Accademia Teatro Alla Scala – Politecnico Di Milano. His action-research project delved into environmental strategies and cultural policies across the European Union, reflecting his commitment to embedding sustainability in theatre practices.
Holding a comprehensive overview of the arts sector's supply chain led Conde to his role as an Arts & Culture Climate Action Consultant, supporting organizations like Bristol Old Vic. Conde's approach toward sustainable practices in the performing arts sector focuses on behavioral change, strategic collaborations, collective creativity, and advocacy opportunities. Conde's work includes crafting a Carbon Literacy Training course for the UK Theatres and Performing Arts professionals, fostering positive change, and championing decarbonization initiatives, all while increasing awareness of the inequalities within the climate emergency.
As a creative practitioner, Conde remains a Theatre Maker, driven by an insatiable curiosity to transcend boundaries. Fueled by curiosity for real-world social and political relations, Conde believes in the creation of theatre as potentially boundless, and able to transcend its own conventions of staging, space, and narrativisation. His directing seeks to form multiple layered stories that examine identity, storytelling, site-specific work, and sustainable production models. Conde has worked closely with a number of widely acclaimed artists and directors including Theo Jansen (Netherlands), Nancy Medina and Tom Morris (UK), Daniel Barone, Julio Chavez, Carlos Olivieri, and José Maria Muscari (Argentina), each contributing to the evolution of his creative identity and skills.
Conde's curiosity is supported by a commitment to continuous learning and experimentation. His training includes certifications in Advanced Carbon Footprinting, Circular Economy & Sustainability Strategies, and Climate Literacy, garnered from esteemed institutions such as Northumbria University and the University of Cambridge Judge Business School.
Proficient in Spanish, English, and Italian, Conde enjoys developing international collaborations reimagining culture's role and impact. As a practitioner and consultant, Nicolás Conde's journey focuses on transformative, sustainable, and exciting experiences for all audiences.
